I loved the book, was dazzled by its language, and looked forward to turning each page to learn what would happen next. While ostensibly a book for younger readers, "Dear Papa," reads well for all ages, and should be very attractive to readers who grew up during World War Two they will recognize this little girl, and will be transported back to a time where their perspectives match those of the book's narrator. I love that Zentner doesn't shy away from talking about religion in his books and in Goodbye Days, he shows what God means to the three grieving families and shows something differeint from all their perspectives. I'll be looking for her next book to see what she has in store for us next. it's more of a "If your kid does this, tell them this and THATLL get 'em. A powerful story told against the backdrop of one of the most enterprising and courageous and yet sad and problematic situations in history, that still makes the headlines on a daily basis.
